چکیده

We propose a metric to predict the visibility of color halftone textures. This metric is represented by the critical viewing distance below which the halftone textures can be discriminated. It is intended to be used in the evaluation of the texture visibility of uniform color halftone patterns, which plays an important role in halftone design and optimization. The metric utilizes the visual threshold versus intensity function and contrast sensitivity functions for luminance and chrominance. To verify the metric, the texture visibility was determined experimentally using a psychovisual experiment. The critical viewing distances determined by the experiment and those predicted by the metric were compared, and a good correlation was achieved. The results have shown that the metric is capable of predicting the visibility over a wide range of texture characteristics. © 2002 SPIE and IS&T. [DOI: 10.1117/1.1455010]

Metric to evaluate the texture visibility of halftone patterns

Halftones are intended to produce the illusion of continuous images from binary output states, so the visibility of undesired halftone textures is an essential quality factor of halftone patterns. We propose a metric to predict the visibility of color halftone textures. The metric utilizes the human visual threshold function and contrast sensitivity functions (CSF) of luminance and chrominance....

Hiding color watermarks in halftone images using maximum-similarity binary patterns

This paper presents a halftoning-based watermarking method that enables the embedding of a color image into binary black-and-white images. To maintain the quality of halftone images, the method maps watermarks to halftone channels using homogeneous dot patterns. These patterns use a different binary texture arrangement to embed the watermark. To prevent a degradation of the host image, a maximi...

Moiré-free color halftoning using hexagonal geometry and spot functions

Hexagons are widely observed as a packing or tiling geometry in nature, yet they appear to have been avoided in conventional halftone tiling. A goal of the present study is to understand the potential barriers that have prevented their use and present new halftone geometry options that overcome the issues while offering several potential benefits. While conventional halftone geometries often in...

A Review on Scanned color image improvement using image descreening

To print continuous tone images, Electrophotographic (EP) printer uses halftoning technique. Image halftoning prints the image as matrix of dots which are halftone patterns those are hardly perceived by human eyes. So scanned images obtained from such hard printed copies are normally affected by screen like artifacts and moiré patterns. Scanned color Image improvement using Image descreening te...

Inverse color to black-and-white halftone conversion via dictionary learning and color mapping

This paper challenges the problem of estimating the original red–green–blue (RGB) image from a black-and-white (B&W) halftone image with homogeneously distributed dot patterns. To achieve this goal, training RGB images are converted into color-embedded gray images using the conventional reversible color to gray conversion method, and then converted into halftone images using error diffusion in ...
